As a contractor seeking new opportunities it is paramount that your CV portrays the best version of you. After all, it is the first thing that the recruiter will judge you on so it needs to be up-to-date, concise and well-structured. Carry on reading to find out how often you should update your CV to make a lasting impression.

Firstly, we would recommend getting into the routine of making notes of your latest professional achievements – let’s say once a month. This is a good way to stay on top of experience/ new skills you’ve learned in your most recent role which you may otherwise forget down the line.

Next, consider how your role has changed and mention where you have taken on any additional responsibilities. Always ensure your latest experience is at the top of your CV, so that it is in reverse chronological order and prospective employers can see the most relevant information first.

Keep your personal summary brief and include keywords from the job description where possible. Recruiters will be looking for individuals who match the skills they’re looking for, so why not spell it out for them!? We also advise conducting a keyword search using one of the many free online tools available online, which will tell you which words are most likely to land you the interview. Tailoring your CV for the role that you are applying to is key and will help your application stand out amongst the crowd.

Also be sure to include any credentials or licences linked to your profession, as well as mentioning your educational background. This will help increase your chances of landing an interview and demonstrate to the recruiter that you meet the requirements of the role (or maybe even exceed expectations!).

Lastly, get a trusted friend or family member to proofread your CV and check for any grammatical errors or typos that could take away from your professional accomplishments and dazzling work experience.

We wish you the best of luck in finding your next role!
