Do you fancy a new challenge? If you’re somebody who enjoys having autonomy over their work life and gets bored easily doing the same thing day in, day out, then contracting could be for you. But what about your finances? Job stability? Days off? These are all common concerns of people looking to make the shift to contracting work, but with the right umbrella, none of the above should be an issue. Carry on reading to find out 3 reasons why you should consider working with an umbrella company.

1.All your taxes are taken care of

Your chosen umbrella company will take care of all your tax compliance so you don’t have to worry about endless paperwork with HMRC. All you have to do is submit your hours and let us do the hard part!

Be cautious about umbrella companies that offer take home pay that is suspiciously high, this almost always means they are involved with tax avoidance which could ultimately land you in a lot of trouble.

2. Employee benefits

Upon registering with an umbrella company, you automatically become an employee of that umbrella. As a result you will receive all the employee benefits you would be entitled to in a full time position (get in!).

This includes:

  • Pension package (usually opt in)
  • Statutory sick pay
  • Continuity of employment status – this is beneficial for those looking to take out a mortgage or a loan

3. Commitment isn’t necessary

Commitment issues? As a contractor working under an umbrella company, there is no need to sign any long term employment agreements. Instead, you simply work the length of your project and then decide whether contracting is for you or if you want to return to full time work again. Even better, you can choose to back out or switch your umbrella provider at any time during the contract.
