January blues isn’t new news, but as a contractor who works remotely, it can hit that bit harder. In this blog, we explore 5 ways to beat feelings of loneliness, all year round.

  1. Get out of the house

Get yourself down to a co-working space now and again as a way of meeting new people and getting yourself out of the house. Plus, you might meet other freelancers and contractors who will understand exactly how you’re feeling! You could even start having regular meet-ups and socials if you all get along.

  1. Join a club

Extracurricular activities don’t have to be left at the school gate! Why not rekindle a passion, such as drama club or running? Not only will you meet new people, but you will have a regular activity to look forward each week and keep you busy in your downtime.

  1. Network

Meet other like-minded individuals by attending industry-specific networking events, workshops and virtual classes. The icing on the cake is that you might find new roles and opportunities along the way!

  1. Make the most of social media

While doomscrolling through LinkedIn is never a good idea, social media can have its uses – especially when it comes to meeting other professionals. So get yourself out there! Follow relevant Facebook pages, and LinkedIn groups and contribute to discussion forums for industry insight and new professional connections.

  1. Take some time for yourself

Being your own boss has its benefits, but sometimes it can mean that you end up overworking. Be strict with your time so you don’t end up alone at your laptop until the late hours – it’s simply not healthy. When you log off for the day, make sure to spend time with friends and family and make plans in advance so you have things to look forward to outside of your professional life. Remember, work-life balance is key.
